more Valentine's Day Sweet Stuff

Because anything cupcake is sooo popular right now, there is so many cupcake themed Valentine's Day decorations in the stores right now. Stores like Micheals, Target, Kohls, Cost Plus - everywhere you turn to look, there's something with a cupcake on it.

Here's my Valentine's display on my kitchen island - the cupcake cookie jar was a gift from my mom two Christmas' ago (I think it was from Borders). The pastries on the cake stand are the erasers I got for Christmas and the little cupcake jar is from HomeGoods.

Here's another cookie jar - this one is from Kohl's. And the cupcake welcome sign is also from Kohl's.

And this assortment of cupcake and cake related items is from Michaels dollar bins - file folders, rubber stamp, and chipboard cupcake album (I have a craft project planned for the chipboard...stay tuned...)

Sweet Stuff Holiday Edition - Department 56 Village

I collect Department 56 Original Snow Village buildings and two of my favorites are food related - Sweet Shop and Cooking School. I'm hoping they'll come out with a cake and cupcake shop so I can add that to my collection.

Sweets Themed Christmas Tree

Simply Sweets Christmas Sweets Tree

Over the past few years I've started to collect Christmas tree ornaments with a sweets theme - cupcakes, cakes, chocolate and candy. Some of my favorite sources of sweets themed ornaments include KMart (Martha Stewart collection), Target, Crate and Barrel and Sur La Table.

Simply Sweets' Sweet Themed Christmas Tree

Since we're moving to a new larger storefront soon, next Christmas we'll display the tree at the Simply Sweets Shop. My collection is growing so I might have to upgrade to a larger tree and I'm thinking about maybe a pink one instead - what do you think?

Still on a search for the perfect tree topper - I've been searching for a cupcake tree topper but haven't found one yet.

Do you have any sweets themed ornaments on your tree? Please upload a photo on the Simply Sweets Facebook Fan page to share - we'd LOVE to see them.

Sweet Stuff - Special Easter Edition

Easter cake plate

For Easter I wanted to share my Easter Cake plate - the top of the plate has a pastel plaid pattern and is bordered with tulips (my favorite flower!) and the plate is held up by a cute little bunny. My favorite cake plates are those that have animal or characters as the stand part of the plate. I picked up this plate last year at my favorite place for cake plates, Home Goods.

Sweet Stuff - Christmas edition

Happy Holidays!!!

Hope everyone had a wonderfully sweet holiday! My son is almost 3 so there was a lot of excitement this morning after seeing everything that Santa left at our house. Santa even shopped at Simply Sweets and left some treats in everyone's stockings.

I love Christmas and I love cake plates and plateaus so I have a collection of several plates that I'd like to share in this Christmas edition of Sweet Stuff. The first is a Burton and Burton plate that I received as a gift last Christmas - you may have noticed it in the picture from our cookie decorating party topped with chocolate marshmallow pops. I love the peppermint design!

The next plate is one that I received as a gift the year before. The stand is decorated with a holly leaf design and the top is a snowman.

The last plate was a gift from a boss from my previous job. My favorite type of cake plates are those where are character (a snowman for this plate) is part of the stand holding up the plate.

Cake plates don't need to be used just for cakes! this year we used on for marshmallow pops and to serve breakfast breads.

Sweet Stuff - Halloween edition

Our first Sweet Stuff post was very popular so we will continue to post more of our favorite sweet stuff finds. In honor of Halloween, I'm posting a Halloween cake plateau. I love collecting cake stands especially those with feet. This was a new item I acquired this year from one of my favorite places to find cake plates and plateaus at great prices - Homegoods!

Kati Walker cupcake painting - sweet stuff!

KatiWalker cupcake painting, originally uploaded by Simply Sweets.

I came home from the shop last week and checked the mail and was soooooooo excited to find a great gift that was sent to me from a local artist Kati. Kati is the artist behind Kati Walker Art. She specializes in custom children's artwork. I think my cupcake painting is so adorable.

You can purchase her art work from her website, her etsy store or contact her directly.

I'll use this as an opportunity to start my new blog feature called "sweet stuff" where I will write about products that have some thing to do anything sweet (cakes, cupcakes and chocolate). Most of the entries will feature things that I already own or products created or sold by local businesses.

I just checked out Kati's website and found some new works of art that I love:
