7 cupcake cake for 7th birthday

We created this cupcake cake for a 7th birthday celebration that was held at Scottsdale Lifetime Fitness. The cupcake cake is made from 24 chocolate sourcream cupcakes and decorated in light blue with light green and white polka dots with a little sparkle added. Cupcake cakes are fun because they create a large display (the board for this cake is 20 x 30 inches) and are easy to serve.

Zebra cake with shoes for a Sex in the City themed bachelorette party

pink and black zebra with 3 sugar high heel shoe bachelorette cake

This cake was ordered for a Sex in the City themed bachelorette party where everything was being done in pink and black. This zebra print cake design has become very popular for birthdays but also makes a great bachelorette cake! This customer also ordered our popular Hawaiian flip flop themed cake for the bridal shower she hosted. I had fun making the shoes and couldn't stop with just one style. The favors are white chocolate high heel shoes tinted pink and tied with pink and bloack ribbons.

Hitting the hot spots in Las Vegas

So besides the casinos and the shoppings on the strip, where does a cake decorator visit when in Vegas? A local cupcapke shop, of course. On my last day in Vegas I decided to visit a bakery I've read about through the cupcake blogging and flickr communities - Retro Bakery. I picked up a box of cupcakes for the road and I got to meet owner Kari. And the cupcakes, YUM!!! More of what I call a dessert cupcake compared to the custom decorated cupcakes I make for Simply Sweets. My favorite was the mint chocolate chip. So next time you're in Vegas, make sure you make a stop at Retro Bakery and let them know that Simply Sweets sent you. They're located in the NW part of the city but right off the freeway so its easy to stop in.

Back from vacation and cake convention

I've been back from vacation and Cake Camp for over a week now and have put together some photos from my break.

My son and I traveled to Ocean City, New Jersey, to stay with my family for a relaxing week on the beach with cooler weather.
Once back from New Jersey, I was home for a day before packing and driving to Las Vegas for the California Cake Club's Cake Camp. This was the third year that I've attended Cake Camp - cake instructors from around the world come together for 3 days of cake classes. This year I took classes from Colette Peters (Crooked Cake), Toba Garrett (Glace Sugar Cookies and Modeling Chocolate Roses), Susan Carberry (mini bride and groom cakes), Geraldine Randelsome (ohh la la cake) and Cecilia Morana (gumpaste modeling farm animals).

Here are some of my class projects:
